Olympic Flower Retreiver Selection

Marina and Riley were selected to be flower retrievers.

The girls were chosen from 140 applicants from around the province. Applicants had to be born in the years 1997, 1998 and 1999. The list was narrowed down by choosing the 51 skaters who have passed the most test levels. That 51 were invited to audition in Vancouver on 17 August. Only 30 were chosen to make up 3 teams of 10 skaters. The audition was based on time management, ability to be independent, follow directions, poise and of course skating skills. For some of the two-part audition the girls did not even know that they were being assessed and scored. The girls will be doing their training in Vancouver at the ISU (International Skating Union) Four Continents Championships 2009. The following year they will do the 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games.

Marina, Riley and Sarah enjoyed two days working hard at Burnaby 8 Rinks. They worked with a variety of coaches, on and off-ice, improving skating skills, jump techniques, and theatre on ice. They especially enjoyed making lots of new friends.
